Welcoming Pakistan’s announcement for resumption of the Ground Lines of Communication (GLOC) to Afghanistan, NATO Secretary General Andres Fogh Rasmussen said it will enhance cooperation among the allied countries.

He observed, “The resumption of transit arrangements for ISAF supplies through Pakistan demonstrates strengthened cooperation between ISAF nations and our partner Pakistan”.

Commending the participation of Pakistan, he said that Islamabad had played a key role in supporting a secure Afghanistan in a stable region. He further stated, “As ISAF nations agreed at the Chicago Summit, regional cooperation is key to promoting a peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan”.

Earlier, United States Commander of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) troops battling in Afghanistan, General John Allen also praised the decision of Pakistan to resume supplies.

In a press note issued by his office in Kabul, he paid tributes to the sacrifices of Pakistan, as well as Afghan and NATO troops in the war against terrorism. However, his statement did not comment over the apology offered by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Islamabad blocked supply line for allied forces on November 26 after NATO air-strike killed 24 Pakistani troops at Salala check-post in Mohmand Agency.

After denial of many months, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said sorry for the losses suffered by the Pakistani forces, confessing the mistake on part of America. She also announced that Pakistan was resuming supplies for NATO forces into Afghanistan.

It is vital to mention here that General John Allen visited twice in the last week to end deadlock over the supply routes. He observed, “The decision was a demonstration of Pakistan’s desire to help secure a brighter future for both Afghanistan and the region at large”.

He further said that he was looking forward to future opportunities to work together with Pakistan toward their common goals. They will have to take coordinated action against terrorist if they want to win war on terror, he added.

It is important to mention here that General Allen blamed Islamabad for an attack on Kabul hotel that killed 18 people last month.
