Russia refuses to host Assad in exile

Moscow: (Thursday, July 05, 2012) Russia has confirmed today that it has been approached by some of its partners to host Syrian President Bashar al Assad in exile. However, the country has termed the suggestion as joke and has
refused to act upon it.

While sharing details of such offers, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Germany in June had suggested that Russia should take on Assad, to which, he said, “Our side thought this was a joke.”

While talking to the journalist, Sergei said that Russia was quite surprised over the fact that its friends recently raised the issue all over again.
