Scot Robison and Michael Phelps dominate swimming events – US Swimming Olympic Trials

Scot Robison and Michael Phelps dominated the races of Men’s 100m freestyle and 200m butterfly respectively at the 2012 US Swimming Olympic Trials in Omaha on Thursday, June 28.

Robison served notice of his talent in the qualifying rounds of the 100m freestyle while Phelps conquered the playoff 200m butterfly.

With his fascinating struggle, Robison upset his challengers and entered the playoff of the double lap discipline with an effort of 49.08 seconds.

His top ranked effort was trailed by Nathan Adrian, who remained nearly 0.10 seconds away from him and obtained second best qualification spot of the race by posting a time of 49.17 seconds.

Third fastest spot of the 100m swim was secured by Matt Grevers, who stayed 0.07 seconds slower from his former finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 49.24 seconds.

Similarly, Grevers was traced by Jimmy Feigen, who stayed slightly slower from his foregoing finisher and earned fourth best position of the discipline with the timing of 49.29 seconds.

Following that, the spectators witnessed notable efforts of Phelps in the distant butterfly discipline. With his unrelenting efforts, Phelps dictated terms to his challengers and captured gold medal of the event by reporting a time of 1 minute and 53.65
seconds.

The champion remained nearly two seconds faster from Tyler Clary of FASTCA, who achieved silver medal of the discipline by producing a time of 1 minute and 55.12 seconds.

The silver medallist was chased by Bobby Bollier of STANPC, who remained half body length behind and touched the finishing wall for third position by clocking a time of 1 minute and 55.79 seconds.

Fourth position of the event was obtained by Davis Tarwater of MAC-NC, who was full body length apart and appeared on the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 56.83 seconds.

The championship served as the selection trials for the US swimmers, who wish to represent USA at the forthcoming 2012 London Olympic Games while the position holders received medals at the prize ceremony of the tournament.
