Amir Khan vs. Danny Garcia: The IBF title might be on the line

Former IBF and WBA light welterweight titlist Amir Khan will be facing Danny on July 14 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The fight will have Garcia’s WBC title on the line along with the vacant WBA light welterweight title. It is a title unification bout of the light welterweight division.

CEO of Golden Boy Promotions Richard Scahefer, who made the announcement last week regarding the WBA title being on the line, is now hopeful of the IBF title as well. Schaefer, in a recent interview, revealed he is in touch with the President of IBF.

He added, “The IBF title might be on the line too, we will have to see about that.”

The WBA had stripped Lamont Peterson off the titles last week, as a result of Peterson’s positive drug test in April. Khan had filed an official complaint regarding Peterson, urging the IBF to strip him off the titles. However, the IBF has kept its decision on hold, inquiring more into the situation.

“The WBA president has informed me that Amir will be fighting for the WBA title,” revealed Richard Schaefer.

The fight between Khan and Garcia is a close one. It already has two titles up for grabs, and by the addition of the IBF title, this fight will become a grand event.

Speaking about his July 14 opponent, Khan revealed, “His style is perfect for me. With my hand speed and fast feet, he is ideal for me.”

He added, “I know he beat Erik Morales to win the title, but this is a different level. I’m one above for him and this is the elite level of the division.”

Khan already feels ready for the match and so does Garcia. Both fighters are best at what they do. Khan is coming off a title defeat to Peterson, whereas Garcia is coming off a title win over Erik Morales.
