July 5 is Black day of history: President Asif Ali Zardari
Thursday, July 5th, 2012 9:46:41 by Faisal FarooqPresident Asif Ali Zardari, who is also co-chairman of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), said July 5 will always be marked as a black-day of tyranny and oppression in the history of the country.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the president of the country observed, “July 5, 1977 and its aftermath starkly reminds us how one military dictator spawned extremists for his political survival and how another exploited the same extremists for promoting his political agenda”.
Asif Zardari was of the opinion that the realization of facts will help the nation to understand better how to check terrorism and militancy.
Almost three decades ago, an unfortunate tale of destruction was unleashed on the democratic institutions. Judiciary was decimated on this day, fundamental rights were usurped and innocent people were flogged and hanged only for political differences.
He asserted, “The era of packing parliament by the dictators was over for all times and no back doors and side doors will be allowed to be reopened for sending the real representatives home”.
The co-chairman of the ruling PPP said that menace of sectarianism, religious extremism and individual jihad were purposely promoted by the usurper to create an artificial constituency for perpetuating his rule as a reign of terror was let loose.
Asif Ali Zardari termed the period as brutal and barbaric, saying that the dictatorial rule promoted and sponsored the militant groups, who went on to form Taliban and Al-Qaeda in the later stages.
He noted, “If today Pakistan is the Petrie dish of international terrorism it was the product of failed international politics on the one hand and the machinations of our own dictators on the other”.
The president urged the nation to come forward and let them resolve to banish dictatorship from the country for ever and restore law and order for bringing peace and prosperity back.
He vowed to confront fanaticism, terrorism and militancy bravely wherever it rears its ugly head, saying that they would not allow any dictator to use the nation as tool for advancing his personal vested interests.
