David Brailsford is definitely a happy man with Team Sky currently at the top of the Tour de France overall classifications.
However, the British Team’s General Manager has also noted that the Tour de France is not quite over and insisted his side to focus till the last stage of the race.
Bradley Wiggins is leading the stage 17 classifications of the race and is accompanied by team-mate Christopher Froome at the second spot.
The duo is close to register the first ever British Tour de France victory with a comfortable lead of over 2 minutes on Vincenzo Nibali of Team Liquigas-Cannondale.
While commenting on the coming stages of the race, David noted, “We’ll wake up tomorrow morning and we’ll race as if it’s the first day of the Tour de France”.
“The danger is that as you get closer people start jumping to conclusions about the result and it’s probably our biggest threat – to allow that to happen”.
“We need vigilance and to take every kilometre as it comes tomorrow and to keep on racing hard like the guys have done”.
“[The unity of the squad] was there for all to see. People like to speculate and make more of the team dynamics than there actually is”.
Team Sky holds the second overall position after the stage 17 classifications with a total deficit of 14 minutes and 9 seconds on Team RadioShack-Nissan.
Team BMC holds the third position with Team Astana, Team Europcar and Team Liquigas-Cannondale at the third, the fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
The British team holds the first overall spot at the UCI World Tour Team’s ranking with a total number of 857 UCI points in the first half of the 2012 season.
The major contributions came through Bradley Wiggins (335 points), Michael Rogers (194 points), Rigoberto Uran (129 points), Sergio Henao (122 points) and Edvald Boasson Hagen helping the team with 77 UCI points.
While Wiggins and Froome fights for the overall classifications, Mark Cavendish is in for the green jersey and the Manxman is not far away from securing his second consecutive overall victory at the Tour de France.
He is at the fourth position after the stage 17 points classifications with 130 UCI points, Peter Sagan (356 points), Andre Greipel (253 points) and Matthew Harley Goss (203 points) occupies the top three spots.
