Will Amir Khan lose control over Garcia’s racist comments?
Friday, July 6th, 2012 9:49:14 by Mohammad ShahjahanThe current world number three light welterweight Amir Khan has, over the past few months, shown great signs of maturity and wit. The young Bolton lad has devoted each and every second of his life in preparing for the much anticipated bout against Danny Garcia.
Despite being a victim of severe verbal assaults by Danny Garcia and his father Angel Garcia, Khan has maintained his calm pretty well.
Angel Garcia over the past few days has bashed almost each and every individual who is in one way or another connected to Amir Khan. Garcia Senior has dubbed Khan as an overrated, below par, talentless, orchestrated pugilist and on the other hand has also bashed Khan’s coach Freddie Roach for being a flimsy trainer who mentors pugilists who were already self-made champions.
Whether Angel’s claims are right or wrong, that is besides the point. The question is what Amir Khan and his camp think about such trash talk and how are they planning to deal with it.
Amir has adopted the ideal strategy which is used by the best brawlers in the sport of boxing, which is to ignore people who degrade you and answer their brash talking and jabbering inside the ring. Khan, even in a recent media interaction, dubbed the Garcia duo’s comments as ‘an attempt to get under his skin’.
Khan has skilfully dealt with the problem as he knows that the attempts are just to disturb him mentally, and eventually physically. Amir, in a recent media interaction stated, “I’ve just ignored everything he has said. He’s trying to get under my skin. He can say what he wants, it’s not going to get to me. Even his dad has been doing it. I’ve had a lot of professional fights and I’ve been in this position before with people trash talking.”
As far as the comparison regarding trash talking between the two camps is concerned, one thing is clearly visible that the Garcia camp has literally crossed the line.
The Garcias have crossed their lines, attacking Khan’s descent and ethnicity. Professional attitude should be followed in every sport or aspect of a job. It is this reason why Amir’s respect is increasing with every passing day.
He does not utter rash comments. Khan tries to emphasize on statistical facts and above all targets just his opponent and not anything associated with him. Garcia’s camp has uttered remarks which could cause any pugilist to unleash his fist, especially if the pugilist was Dereck Chisora.
Such things should not happen at all. Personal slurs and comments should be avoided and especially should not be used while creating hype for a bout. Amir has adopted a wise strategy of just ignoring Angel and his son Danny’s comments.
The Garcia camp should understand that Khan has experienced such scenarios several time, therefore their insolent comments will not rage the Briton lad in fact will just motivate him to train hard.
Amir has proved in recent media workout that he is fit, ready and is prepared to silence Danny in the ring with his fists. The duo will meet at Mandalay Bay Resorts & Casino situated in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States on July 14, 2012.
