Friday, July 6th, 2012 5:16:44 by Usman KhalidApps, the word that had no meaning before the iPhone, is now the most used word for applications. The original iPhone affected a mesmerizing sensation in the masses and even the casual phone user got to get their hands on smartphone technology. Before the advent of iPhone the likes of BlackBerry, Windows phones and Palmtops were only used by and marketed to the corporate clients and serious people.
However, in 2007, the iPhone OS had little to do with the sale of the device. It was more of a hardware magic that won the confidence of the customers than the software. The original iPhone OS 1.0 and 1.0.1 had only basic apps like messages, maps, phone, web browser and YouTube. The fact that anyone could operate the phone with a single thumb was the factor that sold the smartphone.
Features like multi-tasking, cut-copy-paste, MMS, threaded emails and video chats came in the following years. However, the phone itself never lost the charm over the software. But Apple did a commendable job of promoting both the phone and the operating system shoulder-to-shoulder. The phone evolved in shape and Apple took the camera seriously in the iPhone 4. On the flip side, mobile operating system found its own identity with an anticipating effect in the public, what’s next in the upcoming OS?
Every new iPhone never changed its basic aesthetics, making the 3.5-inch screen and a home button at the bottom its signature mark. However, the functions and the quality of these components evolved with time.
