Oscar winning lady is in trouble
Friday, July 6th, 2012 4:42:19 by Faisal FarooqIt seems complicated at this moment to blame any one of them, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy or acid-victim Rukhsana, but one will have to think wisely before commenting on the matter.
The acid-survival, Rukhsana Begum claimed that Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, the only Oscar-winning Pakistani, had promised her 3millionn, a house and plastic surgery on the condition if participating in a 40-minute documentary. She, however, said the promises have not been fulfilled thus far.
On the other hand, the award-winning filmmaker denied the charges, saying that she didn’t promise to the acid-victim for any financial assistance. She, however, revealed that she managed some donors to support Rukhsana.
Although the situation is quite confusing, Sharmeen, to some extent, appeared to be factual as there are no such evidences lying with the acid-survival. However, the question is that what offers were given to Rukhsana to convince her for work.
Apparently, no one will ever work complimentary for a motion movie. Why didn’t Rukhsana go for plastic surgery if she was simply assured for it?
It sounds doubtful that the acid-victim has opted for a wounded living forever. Another question is that why the done didn’t leap forth if he promised a house to Rukhsana.
In fact, there is no such harm in giving her the money as of value of the house if she wants. Law enforcement can deal the issue in case the acid-victim was vulnerable to family.
The allegations leveled against Sharmeen Chinoy cannot be seconded but these must be considered on ethical grounds.
Rukhsana deserves sympathy and generosity even if she has not been promised luxuries by the director of the Oscar-winning documentary. Without any doubt, the acid-survival has been proved fruitful for Sharmeen’s career and her contribution led the movie to numerous awards.
For endorsing such a sensitive issue while ignoring the family crisis, the lady must be appreciated for her confidence and self-belief.
Rukhsana has proclaimed sufferings of hundreds of acid victims to the global world despite being wounded and ill-treated. The media shouldn’t have to give this issue a political tragedy.
Considering on social grounds as it is a matter of acid victimized women, her interests have to be safeguarded and rewards must be given for remarkable contribution to the society.
