CJ terms Frontier Constabulary responsible for missing persons in Balochistan
Monday, July 9th, 2012 9:49:39 by Faisal FarooqChief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that the Frontier Corps (FC) is being involved in abduction of one out of every three Baloch men.
A three-member bench headed by the Chief Justice resumed the hearing of the Balochistan unrest case at the Supreme Court’s Quetta registry. The CJ observed, “I have no answer to the grievances of common people regarding law and order in the province, which was why the apex court had been embarrassed”.
The court issued directives to the Balochistan Home Department to make payments to the families of 135 missing persons.
Commenting on the missing persons’ issue, the Chief Justice said that the recovery of only four missing persons indicated the non-seriousness of the government and law enforcement authorities.
Directing the Balochistan interior secretary to state in writing that they had failed to control the law and order in the province, he asked him to submit his written reply at the earliest.
DIG operation, Hamid Shakeel briefed the court about the details of pilgrims’ bus bombing incident at Hazarganji after Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry sought details of the carnage.
He remarked, “The customs department has made the law and order situation worst confounded, as they release the Kabuli vehicles by taking bribes”. He reprimanded the customs officials saying that do some kind things to this country.
The Chief Justice also sought a report from the customs officials that how many unregistered vehicles were pounded by their department. Most of the crimes were being committed in these vehicles and custom officers were associated in every incident of the crime, he added.
The chief justice flayed the Customs department for such incidents, as they bribed the passengers from Kabul for allowing them to transit.
Provincial home minister, Mir Zafarullah Zehri, also presented himself before the court.
The advocate general of Balochistan told the apex court that a gang of three people involved in the killings of religious scholars had been arrested, adding that four missing persons had also been recovered.
