Islamabad: (Tuesday, July 10, 2012) Imran Khan, chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf said here today that the contempt of court bill has divided the nation.

Talking to the media personnel here, he said that the new contempt law was made only “to protect the money of Asif Ali Zardari in Switzerland.”

Khan was of the view that the bill would be struck down by the court.

Meanwhile, a petition has been launched in the apex court today challenging the contempt of court bill. Siddique Baloch, the petitioner, while proposing the bill, maintained that by trying to introduce the bill, the government
has taken an unconstitutional and unlawful step.

While presenting and passing the contempt of court bill in the National Assembly yesterday, the ruling alliance introduced 13-clause bill, according to which public office holders will be exempted from the mischief of contempt
of court while exercising the powers and performance of functions.

The bill also allows for suspension of a sentence during the pendency of an appeal.
