Rehman Malik resigns from Senate
Tuesday, July 10th, 2012 2:51:24 by Faisal FarooqIn order to express solidarity Pakistanis living abroad, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Interior Affairs has resigned from his Senate membership.
Malik, who is still Advisor to the premier, while talking to the media said that he had tendered his resignation on Monday to show solidarity with the overseas Pakistanis.
Although the apex court had canalled his membership, he formally tendered his resignation from the Upper House of the parliament.
Rejecting the impression that the dual-nationality bill was proposed to facilitate him, he said that he had renounced his British citizenship.
He shared documents with the media persons pertaining to his having renounced British citizenship, saying he would not acquire citizenship of a foreign country in the future.
Malik said that he submitted certificates in the Supreme Court about renouncement of his dual-citizenship but the court still isn’t satisfied.
He, however, confessed that he had established a company in the United Kingdom during exile. He made it clear he quitted his managerial positions of the company on directives of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto before coming into practical politics.
He noted, “The government had always shown respect towards the judiciary and towards orders issued by the courts. I want to resign from the position of adviser but was stopped by the president from doing so”.
He was of the opinion that President Zardari laid foundation of new politics in Pakistan, saying that all the parties were agreed on Fakhruddin G Ibrahim’s name for Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).
In quite an unprecedented move, he rejected the claim that Laskhar-e-Jhangvi was involved in the continued Karachi violence.
He said, “It has been decided that Fayyaz Laghari will be the IG Sindh. I tried to retain him as the Deputy General (DG) Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), but it had been decided otherwise”.
It is vital to mention here that a three-judge bench of the apex court while hearing the dual nationality case had suspended Rehman Malik’s Senate membership along with many other lawmakers.
Consequently, he lost coveted position of Federal Minister for Interior Affairs. Later, President Asif Ali Zardari had appointed him as Adviser to the Prime Minister on Interior.

What a joke … His membership was already suspended .. As he was a dual national !
Remember this: (from his website)
“ISLAMABAD, April 28 (APP): Minister for Interior Rehman Malik on Saturday uncovered involvement of Mian Nawaz Sharif and his family in US $ 32 million money laundering scam, saying he would expose their more such corruption acts. Addressing a crowded press conference, the Interior Minister said he would send a reference of that scam to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) next week and to present all documents in the court if called. Rehman Malik asked the Supreme Court to take a suo moto notice of the scam in which the precious money of national exchequer was sent abroad.”
All his recent troubles and ousting is just coincidence?
