Fakhruddin G Ebrahim says Holding free and fair elections is a challenge

Islamabad: (Tuesday, July 10, 2012) Justice ® Fakhruddin G Ebrahim, who has been unanimously approved by the major political stakeholders in the parliament as the new Chief Election Commissioner said here today that holding free,
fair and impartial general elections is Pakistan will be a challenge for him.

Talking to the media personnel, he said that in meeting up this uphill task, both media and the civil society will have to lend hand to his office. He also said that he will look into why the voters’ list was still incomplete.

Replying to a question, Ebrahim said that the date for next elections will only be announced by the Prime Minister.

He also said that he would work with consensus. He further added that the elections commission is independent from influence of the government.
