Local Government could have averted the Balochistan crisis: CJ Iftikhar

that the problems Baloch people facing these days could have been amicably resolved had there been a local government system in place.
Supreme Court’s three member bench, headed by the Chief Justice and comprised of Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Jawwad S Khawaja, heard the case in Quetta registry.
The court resumed hearing on Tuesday on the petition filed by the Balochistan Bar Association on the law and order situation in the province.
As proceedings on the case started today, the chief justice asked the former deputy commissioner Khuzdar as to whether the Frontier Corps (FC) informed the civil administration about its actions in 2011. Replying to the court,
the former DC informed that they were not taken into confidence by the FC.
To which, while expressing his disappointment over the FC activities, the CJ said that nobody knows about the activities carried out by the FC in the province, including the commissioner, deputy commissioner and the Levis.
He said every time the court convenes and issues directives, but no one follows the orders.
The chief justice asked Raja Irshad, the lawyer for FC, to either produce all the missing persons or summon all the commanders to court. On this, the FC lawyer pleaded for time till Thursday.
The chief justice was of the view that all issues of people could have been resolved had there been a local government in place.
He also directed the Balochistan home secretary to provide all the details about the bodies that are being recovered in the province.
In yesterday’s hearing, the Supreme Court had summoned the IG Frontier Corpse and the Commander Frontier Corps.
While presenting the FC view point in the court, Raja Irshad said that there wasn’t even a single person in the custody of the FC, to which the Chief Justice said that there was evidence contrary to this.
