Amir Khan: David Haye is a friend of mine but his fight is not bigger than mine!

The Bolton’s finest Amir Khan, former IBF and WBA light welterweight champion, will take on the current WBC light welterweight champion, Danny Garcia, on July 14 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and he believes his fight is bigger than David Haye and Dereck Chisora’s grudge match, which will also take place on the same date at Upton Park Stadium in east London.

Khan’s fight with Garcia was initially for the WBC title but now it will have the WBA title on the line as well since Lamont Peterson has been stripped off one of his titles and this is the main reason why Khan feels his fight is bigger than Haye’s.

The 25-year-old also feels that not many out there would like to watch Chisora’s fight because he is not among top ten fighters of the world.

“Boxing fans know my fight is bigger. There’s a world title on the line,” Khan told BBC Radio 5 live.

“David [Haye] is a friend of mine but the fight is not a big fight.”

Khan said: “There are no titles on the line [at Upton Park] and I don’t think Chisora is in the top 10 in the world.

“He has lost his last four or five fights (actually three of his last four).

“I’m in the capital of boxing in Las Vegas. It makes my fight a lot bigger. And the guy I’m fighting Danny Garcia is in the top 10 in the world.”

Well, all said and done, Amir Khan’s fight certainly is the more important one but it cannot be said for sure that it will draw more crowd because Haye and Chisora’s fight is expected to attract a crowd of more than 28,000.

Haye, former WBA world heavyweight champion, came out of retirement to fight Chisora after he brawled with him in a media conference in Munich in February and this is a reason why their grudge match has created an enormous hype among the fans.

However, let’s see if Khan really proves to be the more dominant one on the day.
