Giving another deadline to security agencies, Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry ordered the authorities concerned to recover all missing persons within a week.

Hearing a case pertaining to law and order situation in Balochistan, the chief justice summoned DIG Frontier Constabulary Farrogh Shezad to appear in court on Wednesday. He also directed the authorities to present those persons as well who were residing in Farrari Camps.

Chief Justice Chaudhry observed, “Do not portray Farrari Camp as a paranormal spot and if missing persons are there, they should be presented in the given time. Missing persons were not produced before the court despite clear orders”.

He was of the opinion that they didn’t come here to hold a picnic party but to resolve people’s problems.

The Counsel for Frontier Corps (FC) giving his arguments in the court said that there was no missing person in custody of the forces, saying that such allegations were aimed to malign the reputation of security agencies.

Upon which, the chief justice stated that there were clear evidences presented in the court against the role of FC in forceful disappearances. The FC IG had already been directed to save the reputation of his department, he added.

CJ Chaudhry remarked, “Authority of the state is being challenged, but why is the state not fulfilling its responsibility”.

During the course of hearing, the top judge raised question over the increasing attacks on pilgrims across the province, particularly in surrounding areas of Quetta.

He was of the opinion that the government must secure the life and property of the people of Balochistan, adding it should not only develop the region but take strict actions against handful insurgents.

He questioned why security agencies were helpless before a few militants.

The Chief Secretary Balochistan while speaking in the court admitted that the law and order situation in the province was not satisfactory, saying that they had to deal with sectarian violence and banned outfits at the same time.

In the meantime, a missing person appeared in Quetta late on Tuesday after an absence of one year. According to the police sources, Abdul Wahab, who went missing on August 3, 2011, returned to his home.
