Mac Rumours: New MacBook Pro 13-inch with Retina Display expected to launch this fall – Part 2
Thursday, July 12th, 2012 8:52:50 by Usman KhalidThe new MacBook Pro 13-inch will inherit the same basic genes from the 15 incher that was released at the WWDC this year. The optical drive has been trimmed off to make it extremely thin. The depth will be the same as the 15-inch model, about 0.77 inches. In addition it will have the upcoming Mac OS X Mountain Lion pre-installed in it.
Speaking of which, the new and upcoming Mountain Lion is expected to be released this July. However, before its official release the company is planning to hand out the final pre-release version to the developers. That may delay the release of the operating system by as long as two weeks.
The first mass entertainment product launched by Apple is also seemed to have sprung into new life as well. Hearsay in the tech circles is that the new iPod Nano is also nearing its release in the Fall. However, it is expected to embrace the older design instead of last year’s square shape. It will be in the same outer structure as the 2010 model with a rectangular screen but this time the scroll wheel has been taken off the device. The screen is touted to be capacitive touch sensitive with a home button at the bottom like iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.
The square-shaped iPod Nano was successful in the market because of its smaller footprint. It had more portability factor and could be converted into watches with casings manufactured by third-party vendors. The new design might attract some opprobrium from those who were waiting for the 2011 design with Bluetooth and camera upgrades.
This new approach might have been taken due to the reason that sales of the iPod Touch have plummeted in the last two years, mainly due to the reason most people prefer a $199 iPhone, which has the same functionalities at the expense of some width in the chassis.
