Fang Yang Lim, a budding shuttler from Malaysia, proved his spirited skills on court as he surged into Men’s Singles quarter-final stage after giving a stunning treatment to Austria’s higher ranked shuttler Michael Lahnsteiner in round-of-16 clash at the
2012 US Open GP Gold at Los Angeles, on July 4.
Fang Yang, who was un-seeded player in the tournament, showed a striking presentation of her impressive skills and thrashed the seventh seed Lahnsteiner by ending up the match in an inspiring fashion.
The un-seeded Fang Yang was just uncontrollable on court as he did not let his rival to dictate the pace at any stage and managed to win the battle with a tight score in straight sets.
In the meanwhile, the higher ranked Lahnsteiner failed to show his remarkable skills and also could not cope up with the immense pressure of being the seeded shuttler.
He also failed to produce finishing shots and knelt down to his Malaysian rival without showing his brilliance.
Fang Yang showed a strong character in first game of the match when he matched the speed of rallies and remained close to his rival until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, both shuttlers remained on track by playing positive badminton until the ending stage when Fang Yang showed his class by executing perfectly placed smashes and took the game with a 21-19 score on the board.
Lahnsteiner played aggressive badminton in opening rallies of second set but failed to push Fang Yang on back foot.
The Austrian failed to manage even a small lead on score board until the end of first half as his rival was quick and positive in his shots.
The un-seeded Malaysian, on the other hand, remained consistent in his safe and positive play after the mid-game interval and kept an upper hand over Lahnsteiner.
The in-form Fang Yang was impressive in making a superb anticipation in the court and managed to end up the second set with a tight 21-19 score on the board.
Fang Yang proved his supremacy on court by winning the pre-quarter-final battle in a commanding fashion by a decent score of 21-19 and 21-19.
