Terror revisits Punjab…
Friday, July 13th, 2012 1:57:38 by Faisal FarooqThe law enforcement agencies were caught napping as militants first attacked near Gujrat and then right inside the provincial metropolis, Lahore, reconfirming fears of terrorism in the country.
Lull in terrorist activities for more than a year in the provincial capital had inducted a false sense of security in the administration and law enforcing bodies.
This helps the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to quietly redecorate its sleeping cells with fresh workforce and weaponry system.
The policy that permits banned outfits to work under new names has allowed them to restore old connections and make new strategies to continue to play with the lives of innocent citizens.
Another tendency which helped them to continue the deadly business was public funding. The banned outfits are allowed to work under new names, to collect funds, hold public meeting and recruit fresh people for their notorious aims.
The latest incidents with a difference of days show that the high officials of the banned outfits, particularly the TPP, were issued directed to the local associates. It is quite difficult for the outsiders to mix up and disappear among the population.
Apparently, the militants have had their hideouts in the city to get together and carried out attacks against the security forces. Moreover, they must be having places where to store their weapons and equipment used in the terrorist activities.
The latest attacks once prove that the so-called efficient police system with its assets of local informants has completely failed. The induction of blue-eyed boys at top posts under the present government has taken a toll on the efficiency and morale of the security forces.
The militants have targeted security forces in both the incidents. In the tribal areas, they first concentrated on killing the traditional tribal leadership before they were able to target the security forces.
However, they are zeroing in on the military and law enforcement agencies in the settled areas.
Militants will be free to target the unprotected population once they managed to demoralize the security agencies.
If the establishment wants to save the country it has to abandon the policy of placating the terrorists.
The militancy cannot be eradicated unless all sections of the establishment are on the same page. The country will not need a foreign army to destroy the militant networks.
