That moniker was recently held by Sony with its new Vaio ultrabook priced at $799. However, for $599, HP trades off the Ultrabook label in the Envy Sleekbook 6 that its sibling with the same design.
The new SleekBook 6 can be confused with an ultrabook but it is not. The ultrabook label is officially given to the laptops that fulfil Intel’s pre-defined requirements in hardware and design. Moreover, they should have Intel’s processing units in them whereas, the SleekBook 6 does. This new Envy has AMD’s A6 processor coupled with the graphic card. AMD touts it as an APU, Accelerated Processing Unit.
The new notebook, though compromises on some of the performance attributes housed by Intel-based devices, has a sleek design which makes it easily a fauxtrabook. This however, is the only strong point in the notebook. The overall performance of the Sleekbook 6 is does not take the market by a storm. However, it should not be taken as sub-standard performance mark.
