HP Envy Sleekbook 6 (2012): Full Review – Part 2
Saturday, July 14th, 2012 5:02:03 by Usman KhalidHowever, being an Envy product, it still has a beautiful design, ultra-thin chassis, a brushed metal finish on the lid and wrist-rest.
The basic dimensions of the laptops are 14.7 inches in width and 10.0 inches in length. With 0.78 inches depth it is one of the slimmest laptops in the market. Also it is light in weight for a 15 incher at 4.6 pounds.
For a mid-size laptop, the black finish is a good touch to the overall product design. However, biggest drawback is that it does not come with a standard backlit keyboard. The keyboard is black in colour and has island-style keys that are not backlit. In the dark, it becomes difficult to get the bearings on the keys that camouflage into the overall black interior. However, its sibling, the Sleekbook 6 6z-1000 comes with silver interior that makes a lot of sense. Moreover, backlit keyboards are available for extra $25 upon the online order.
The track-pad is what has been seen in other high-end Envy laptops, so it is a bright sign that this is Sleekbook 6 is not the leftover at HP plants.
The overall shape has a curved red bottom that tappers both to the front and the back. The total black laptop with a red bottom is somewhat overdone work from HP.
There are standard set ports in the Sleekbook 6 and the company has intelligently reduced to costs in this regard. There is no VGA port, instead there are two USB 3.0 and an HDMI port. Moreover, there are SD-card slots, standard 3.5mm headset and microphone jacks. The Ethernet port has been intelligently inserted into the small structure with a door covering most part of it.
