HP Envy Sleekbook 6 (2012): Full Review – Part 3
Saturday, July 14th, 2012 5:01:54 by Usman KhalidThe lid houses a 15.4-inch LED backlit screen with a 1,366×768-pixel native resolution that is standard in both ultrabooks and mid-size laptops. Ethernet, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth come pre-installed in the Sleekbook 6.
Hardware and Performance
The new Sleekbook, as mentioned before, trades off the Intel processor for an AMD A6. Though it is not the best choice for multi-tasking, it still has not disappointed in many functions. Being behind in the race is one thing but being sloppy is another and A6 is not a sub-standard feature in the Sleekbook 6. The CPU is supported by 4GB of 667Mhz RAM.
The graphic card in the new device is AMD’s own that has been integrated into the processing unit and is called APU. Though is just a marketing term used by AMD, it is rather a normal-functioning GPU that accomplishes daily tasks of web browsing, listening to music and watching movies without any complaints.
The standard tests as playing Street Fighter IV took the laptop through scrutiny without any red flags. The game played at 26.7 frames per second that is not a bad frame rate for a native resolution of 1,366×768.
The battery was considered an issue. Energy efficiency has not been AMD’s strong suit compared to Intel processors, much less the latest Ivy Bridge series. However, the Sleekbook 6 did not disappoint in the video playback battery drain test. It lived up to almost 5 hours and 41 minutes on the test.
Final Take
The new HP Envy Sleekbook 6 is a great notebook for the buck paid. If the potential buyer is ready to compromise a little on the performance then Sleekbook 6 is the best choice under a $600 price range.
