First hate it then love it– the Google Love Story behind its products – Part 2
Monday, July 16th, 2012 6:16:30 by Usman KhalidThat should have been the reason why now Gmail serves 425 million people all over the globe with its free mailing servers. Another thing, its mailing servers are considered the fastest in the world.
The world seems to suffer from short term memory loss ailment and Gmail is the clear evidence of the fact. The irony is that service that was first a target post for the civil liberties groups is now being used them in shape of sub-domains, et cetera. Everybody seems to have forgotten that advertisements in mail mean that someone else is reading their mail.
Hanson Hosein, director of the Master of Communication in Digital Media at the University of Washington compared this with a frog in the boiling water.
“Either we are the proverbial frog in the pot of boiling water and we aren’t recognizing that we are being boiled, or we understand we’re trading in some of our privacy for convenience,” he said. “We are well aware of what Google does with this information, but we recognize that we are getting a great service. So far, Google has been relatively benign, so people are thinking either Google will get you or Facebook will get you.”
In the same right, Google recently launched a new application in its new mobile operating system, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The integrated app called the Google Now is the answer to Apple’s flamboyant voice assistant Siri. However, it is a much furnished and even more interactive assistant that foresees your demands and needs.
Google Now combs through the list of user’s activities and queries, and formulates a conclusion what he/she might do at the particular time in the next time. The app can suggests a meeting that might take place, the weather in a city that might be visited and so on and so forth.
This raises a question, who is reading through this information at the server’s end?
