Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf to announce road-map for general polls
Monday, July 16th, 2012 12:52:48 by Faisal FarooqInstead of facing criticism on many fronts, the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have decided to move on for fresh elections, a private TV channel reported on Sunday.
The report quoting sources claimed that Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf will announce the roadmap for the next general elections on August 14.
The two parties, the PPP and the PML-N, held a meeting on Sunday to discuss the upcoming polls, the report added. It also stated that the general elections are also expected in the first week of November.
However, the report said that the formal announcement will be made by Prime Minister Ashraf on August 14.
The report quoting sources said that a seven-member team of the PML-N held discussion with a five-member team of the PPP. The former team was comprised Chaudhry Nisar, Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, Khawaja Asif, Ishaq Dar and Pervez Rasheed while Syed Khursheed Shah, Aitzaz Ahsan, Raza Rabbani, Farhatullah Babar and Jehangir Badar were among the latter’s team.
The two sides showed agreement in the meeting that the premier, chief ministers and other federal and state ministers in the will be having only nationality of Pakistan.
Moreover, they decided that the caretaker premier will neither from the PML-N or PPP, nor on who has been a member or leader of any other political party.
After consolation with other political parties, both the ruling and the opposition parties will formulate code of conduct for the upcoming general polls. The report also stated that the meeting had taken a decision that National Accountability Bureau (NAB) will not open any case against any political party until next elections.
A few ally countries reportedly supported the negotiations between the PPP and the PML-N on the interim setup in Pakistan.
In the meantime, some media reports claimed that names of two candidates are being discussed for the post of caretaker prime minister including Abdullah Hussain Haroon and Asma Jahangir.
The former is currently Pakistan’s ambassador to the United Nations while the latter is the former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association and former chairperson of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP).
