Apple, Inc. has again become a hacking target and this time it is iOS that has fell victim to the malicious acts. It is not long ago that Apple faced a huge controversy with the Flaskback malware that attacked hundreds of thousands of Mac devices, if not millions. Now, the mobile operating system is hanging on the bull’s eye.

A Russian hacker Alexey V. Borodin has developed a hack that lets the iDevice users purchase, or in this case, download applications from the In App store with paying any charges. The hack he developed not only has a potential to inflict Apple with losses in millions but there are strong chances that many other hackers and crackers will follow the suit. Borodin has made the method public over the internet.

Apple has taken the matter seriously and asked the related authorities to bring down Borodin’s video from YouTube. The Russian posted a video on the world’s largest video streaming source, showing his method work the way around downloading apps without any charges.

Moreover, the company has asked the authorities to block the IP addresses of the servers that Borodin used for the hack. It has also lodged a request to takedown request to his server’s hosting provider.

However, does not seem have stopped the hacker from continuing his work. Borodin has relocated to another place and has said that the new server that he will be using is located offshore, not in Russia. Therefore, it is out the jurisdiction of the Russian authorities to stop his hacking activities.

Speaking to the media, Borodin said that he has done more work on his hack and now it will not need the App Store for authorization to download applications.

According to Borodin, users have to install two special security certificates and make the purchases over Wi-Fi with modified DNS settings. Borodin told last week that at that time, more than 30,000 in-app “purchases” had been made through his service.

Apple showed quick response to the malicious activity and is the process of investigating the crime. The company assured the developers that it takes these illegal actions very seriously.
