Chief Minister Balochistan slams media for projecting negative role
Tuesday, July 17th, 2012 9:23:28 by Faisal FarooqProving the proverbial Nero-fiddles-while-Rome-burns situation, Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Aslam Raisani said that the situation in the province was not as bad as was portrayed by the media.
The province is sliding into chaos while the chief minister is criticizing the media for portraying bad image of the region and projecting negative role. He remarked, “It appears some lobby is trying to pave the way for some unconstitutional step in Balochistan”.
In his view, the same lobby was busy in spreading negativity about the province through print and electronic media that wants to destabilize Balochistan.
He explained that an international conspiracy was at play in Balochistan, refusing to comment over the unabated violence in the province. His remark is not a new thing as politicians have repeatedly blamed foreign hands for creating instability in the province but no solid proof has been presented in this regard.
While chairing the meeting, the chief minister reviewed the law and order situation in the province. Besides having a look at preparations for monsoon rains, the meeting decided to take measures to keep prices of daily-use items under control during the holy month of Ramadan.
Nawaz Aslam Raisanai also reviewed the resumption of land route for allied forces battling in Afghanistan. Home Secretary Balochistan informed the meeting that the federal government hasn’t inform the provincial government about the resumption of NATO routes.
The home department has made it clear to the federal government that it could not provide security to NATO supplies owing to its limited resources, the secretary added.
The chief minister added, “It was not the responsibility of the provincial government to provide security to Nato supplies”.
Commenting on the issue of human trafficking, he said that he had issued directives to the security forces to take strict action against those involved in human smuggling into Iran.
The provincial government has written to the Centre to hold the next meeting in Quetta of the task force which has been constituted to check human trafficking and drug smuggling. He said this issue will also be taken up in a meeting of the Pakistan-Iran border commission.
