Microsoft launches the new version of Office, release expected in Fall 2012 – Part 2

The Office version 2012 will also be compatible with the company’s mobile operating system, Windows Phone 8. Though it will not be in its full form on Windows-based smartphones, many other features in it are as flamboyant.

One of notable additions to the suite was the integration of social networking and cloud services. Social networks like Facebook, LinkedIn and Yammer will be accessible directly from the Office applications. Yammer, the social networking site bought earlier by MS, is of most importance. The users will be able to share Office files on the business-focused network.

Cloud computing played an important role in the presentation. All the office files will be directly uploaded to the online repository, SkyDrive, when saved and the user will be able to access them with the same dictionary, state and changes that he saved on the previous device. The multi-tier interaction of Office with SkyDrive is an impressive work on Microsoft’s part. The users will have freedom to access all the files and also will be able to share them with colleagues and friends.

Kirk Koenigsbauer, the company’s corporate vice president of Office demonstrated a number of new and revamped features in the software. He tapped and dragged pictures from Office.com’s tradition gallery, local storage, Bing search results and social network Flickr. The seamless interaction of all the apps with Office was remarkable.

Moreover, the VP also showcased the new feature of inserting video files and live video streaming links on MS Word. One user embedded a live YouTube video in a document to show how easy it is to add video content to Word files.
