Court issues summons to Sharif Brothers over NAB’s pleas
Wednesday, July 18th, 2012 3:47:03 by Faisal FarooqAn accountability court on Wednesday summoned Sharif Brothers over the pleas filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for reopening references against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s leadership.
The court also issued notices to Chairman NAB Admiral (Retd) Fasih Bokhari to appear before the court on same day with details of the cases.
Earlier, Bokhari filed three separate references in the court seeking reopening cases against alleged corruption of Sharif Brothers. The three references include the alleged corruption cases of Hudaibia paper mills, Ittefaq Foundry and Raiwind farm.
Administrative Judge Chaudhry Abdul Haq while seeking details of the cases from NAB’s chief summoned Sharif Brothers and family.
Despite admitting the NAB applications, the court clarified that the court couldn’t reopen cases against them until the stay order issued by the Lahore High Court (LHC) be evacuated. NAB Prosecutor General KK Agha filed the please signed by Fasih Bokhari
On the recommendations of a special committee, the NAB chief had decided to reopen the cases against Nawaz Sharif and his family, which was allegedly involved in money laundering worth more $32 million.
Earlier, the special committee headed by NAB Prosecutor General KK Agha had recommended the reopening of cases against politicians after the committee had taken decision to scrutinize them, particularly against Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif.
After the Lahore High Court (LHC) issued a stay-order on a petition filed by the Sharif Brothers in October 2011, the cases were set aside for an indefinite period.
The NAB had formally announced that the decision to initiate inquiries against Nawaz and Shahbaz Sharif came after President Asif Ali Zardari’s order to scrutinize all politicians.
It is vital to mention here that the NAB chief earlier said that there would not be opened any case against any politician until the next general elections.
