Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf vows to eliminate handful insurgents in Balochistan
Wednesday, July 18th, 2012 9:36:38 by Faisal FarooqPledging to eliminate a handful of elements who are destabilizing the law and order situation in Balochistan, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf said the government will take every possible step to restore peace in the province.
Addressing intellectuals and students at the National Defence University, the premier said that the unrest might seep into other areas if it is not quenched immediately in small pockets.
He, however, said that the unrest in small part of the province could not be equated with an insurgency.
Apart from the warnings and threats, the premier also reiterated his call for disgruntled Bloch nationalist leaders to renounce violence and opt for dialogue.
The premier noted, “The entire Pakistan is yours. Come and talk to your own government. You will not be disappointed. The people of Pakistan will go an extra mile to redress the grievances of the people of Balochistan”.
In his view, constructive dialogue and political engagement will steer the region out of its troubles. It is vital to mention here that some nationalist leaders including Barhamdagh Bugti and Hyrbyair Marri, who are living in exile, refused to hold any type of negotiation with the authorities.
The prime minister elucidated that his offer of dialogue was not for those who wanted to destabilize the country, adding they will not hold discussion to those who were against the country’s sovereignty.
Describing the unrest in the regions as foreign abetted, the premier urged a few dissident Baloch youngsters not fall prey to the conspiracies hatched by the foreign elements.
He remarked, “The situation should be seen in its true perspective keeping in view its internal and external linkages. There are not one but many fronts on which we need to fight for the cause of the people of Balochistan”.
He was of the opinion that those who wanted peace in the region must keep in mind the aspirations of more than 95 per cent people of the province who want to live with Pakistan.
Commending the military and paramilitary troops, Prime Minister Ashraf said these forces played vital role in promoting and protecting national interests in the province.
In his view, the public schools and cadet colleges working under the banner of security forces are playing vital role in bringing harmonization among the coming generation.
