The company, in efforts to put an end to all the aggravating situations has hired Google’s top executive, Marissa Mayer, as its new CEO. Ms. Mayer joined the company on Tuesday, July 17.
Mayer is the company’s third CEO in a single year. CEO Scott Thompson was ousted from the company in June for tampering his resume prior to the appointment. Ross Levinsohn, who was made the interim head of the company was one of the top candidates for the permanent appointment. However, the board announced on Monday that Mayer has been selected as the CEO my majority.
The Google executive, who joined the search engine in 1999 as the employee No. 22, was approached by Yahoo in mid-June for the position and last Thursday she was given the confirmation and appointment.
“I am honored and delighted to lead Yahoo, one of the internet’s premier destinations for more than 700 million users,” Mayer said in a statement. “I look forward to working with the company’s dedicated employees to bring innovative products, content, and personalized experiences to users and advertisers all around the world.”
Mayer comes with over 13 years of experience in the internet business. After graduating from Stanford University as a computer sciences major, she joined Google at the turn of the century. In her decade long term as one of the most successful executives at the company, she has been behind most of the ventures and products that Google launched over the years.
