British PM Cameron visits Afghanistan
Thursday, July 19th, 2012 12:46:13 by Fayyaz YaseenKandhar: (Wednesday, July 18, 2012) British Prime Minister David Cameron has arrived Afghanistan today, confirmed the Afghan officials.
Cameron, in order to meet the British soldiers, landed in the southern city of Lashkar Gar, the capital of the Helmand province where British forces are currently based.
After arriving Afghanistan, he held meetings with several local officials. According to Farid Ahmed Farhang, the provincial spokesman, “He met with provincial officials including the police chief and acting governor.”
In the meeting with the said officials, the British premier discussed about the transition of security responsibilities as Britain, and it NATO allies prepare to withdraw from Afghanistan by the end of 2014.
During his visit to Afghanistan, Cameron is also expected to meet the Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
Presently, there are about 9,500 British troops in Afghanistan, which makes it the second largest contingent among the NATO forces after the United States.
