In Easy Steps: How to replace the broken iPhone 4/4S screen – Part 2
Thursday, July 19th, 2012 5:19:51 by Usman KhalidFollowing is the step-by-step process to open, disassemble, reassemble the internal components and replace the front screen.
First, make sure you have all the appropriate tools to commence the process. You will need thin metal blades, a plastic spudger or case-opening tool, tweezers, a Phillips-head screwdriver, a tiny flat-head screwdriver and a special pentalobe screwdriver, to remove tamper-resistant outer-case screws.
If you do not have these tools, you can always purchase them online.
The screen and the LCD are merged together in the iPhone 4 and 4S, therefore, it is recommended that you buy both together as one. The couple is available online for $70 to $120.
Before taking everything apart, back-up all the data from your iPhone on iTunes or iCloud so that if anything goes wrong, you do not have anything lost.
Start disassembling the phone by unscrewing the two screws on either side of the dock port at the bottom.
This will let the back cover loose. Slide it upwards and lift open to get inside the phone.
Due to small structure of device, everything is delicate and cramped up; therefore, you will need to perform every task with patience.
Due to fact that the screen and LCD are located at the front and there is no way t get around the motherboard or access the broken screen from the front, most of the circuitry will need to be taken out.
Start the removal process with the battery. Disconnect the battery connector going in the mother board by removing the screw. Also remove the tiny pressure contact located under the connector, noting its location in order to reassemble it once you are done with the process.
