Contempt of court law, larger bench to hear the petition
Friday, July 20th, 2012 9:55:49 by Fayyaz YaseenIslamabad: (Friday, July 20, 2012) Supreme Court of Pakistan, while accepting a petition to look over the contempt of court law, has constituted a five-member larger bench headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
The bench will review the petition challenging ‘Contempt of Court Amendment Act-2012’
Other honorable judges, who, along with the Chief Justice, will constitute the bench, include Justice Shakirullah Jan, Justice Tasadduque Jilanee, Justice Jawad Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif.
Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had initial hearing over the petition last week when he was in Quetta to hear the Balochistan law and order case.
Responding to the petition, and accepting it for further hearing, the court had issued notices to the respondents including the federation, prime minister, senate chairman, speaker national assembly, law minister, attorney general
and cabinet division. Further hearing on the case will take place on July 23 in Islamabad.
In order to get this law repelled, 18 different constitutional petitions have been filled with the court so far.
