Pakistanis to face ban on international travel if polio not eradicated in a year

Islamabad: (Friday, July 20, 2012) The Senate Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination has expressed the fears for Pakistan might be facing international travel ban if polio disease is not completely eradicated by 2013.

Sharing the details, Senator Karim Khawaja informed the committee members that the international community had hinted that if polio was not completely gotten rid of by the next year, a travel ban on Pakistan could be placed.

When World Health Organization (WHO) officials were contacted to comment on this development, the spokesperson of the office said that there have been recommendations to make a polio vaccination certificate necessary for Pakistani’s
travelling abroad, however, there have been no further developments.
