Ford Focus Electric (2012): Full Review – Part 4
Friday, July 20th, 2012 7:26:35 by Usman KhalidFrom economic view point it gives the driver quite a detailed information sheet and report on the daily commutes and driving styles.
On paper it gives an economical 75 miles to full charge, according to Environment Protection Agency. In addition, its compared mileage to a gas engine is about 100 mpg equivalent in city and 99 mpge on highway. But that is not a very marketable pitch to the general audience.
What these drivers are going to notice is the general economy of the car, especially those who have their offices with a 30 mile radius. And if there is a charging dock available at their work place, the deal may strike gold.
Braking is another story to tell. Ford has intelligently installed a brake info feature that lets the driver know how much energy he/she is consuming and how good was the braking. The Focus Electric has friction brakes and they use the electric energy from the battery if the brake pedal is pushed too hard. The car’s computer system crunches some numbers and awards percentage marks for good or bad braking; within no time the user will set his foot to good and economical braking.
Cabin Tech
The steering wheel is big comfort, right off the bat. This is intuitive when it comes to steering wheel because a hydraulic wheel might not make a lot of sense in an electric vehicle. However, the wheel is over-boosted in efficiency for it turns a lot of degrees on a slight nudge. This instinctively bodes unwell in high speeds but the steering becomes harder with speed.
