Pakistan Peoples’ Party trying to subvert judiciary; says Imran Khan
Friday, July 20th, 2012 12:24:28 by Faisal FarooqPakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has claimed that the ruling Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) and its coalition partners were confederated in a plot to let down the judiciary.
Addressing a ceremony hosted for the fund raising campaign of his educational institution, the cricketer-turned-politician lashed out the ruling party, particularly President Asif Ali Zardari.
He observed, “Asif Zardari has bought the majority in the Parliament through bribes, and they are all together to subjugate the judiciary. They have made a coalition against the rule of law in Pakistan and they are doing so under the umbrella of democracy. In reality, they are only saving and serving corruption”.
The former captain of the national team blamed the United States for committing war crimes against its ally-country, Pakistan. In his view, the US should stop the campaign of drone strikes in the tribal region, expressing re-treatment over the attacks that had killed hundreds of innocent tribal people.
The PTI chief announced that he would take western media into Waziristan for the first time so that they could see the war-torn region for themselves and meet the families of the victims.
In his view, expecting anything from the Pakistani government will be an exercise in futility, adding that the people will have to come out save the country.
Imran Khan noted, “Our rulers are slaves of America, they are in power because they serve the American unjust war. They are killing their own countrymen on behalf of America. They will never do anything about the innocent victims of the drone strikes”.
Urging the government to release the names of drone victims, he said it was hiding the fact that countless innocent people had lost their lives in the spy attacks. He lamented that the US unmanned air strikes also targeted those involved in rescue and relief efforts in the region.
He raised a question over the war saying that no major target has been achieved in this war despite passage of over ten years.
He was of the opinion that the corrupt political lot was not in favor of the supremacy of law in the country, saying the government cried foul whenever courts held them accountable.
