Ashley McGregor and Richard Funk win gold medals – 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals

Ashley McGregor and Richard Funk won gold medals of the 100m breaststroke in Women and Men’s category at the 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sport Centre.

McGregor dominated the race from the start and earned her way to the top of medal rostrum for gold medal by posting a time of 1 minute and 08.87 seconds.

The champion was chased by Kierra Smith, who remained 0.15 seconds slower from her and stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 09.02 seconds.

The silver medallist was trailed by Rachel Nicol, who stayed just 0.10 seconds apart and snared bronze medal of the race by producing a time of 1 minute and 09.12 seconds.

Fourth finest spot of the breaststroke discipline was secured by Tianna Rissling, who stayed 0.18 seconds away from occupying the bronze medal and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 09.30 seconds.

On the other hand, Funk conquered gold medal of the equivalent event in Men’s corner. With his invincible efforts, Funk remained half body length faster from his following swimmer and made his way to the finishing end for the title of the event with the
timing of 1 minute and 01.42 seconds.

The gold medallist was followed by Warren Barnes, who stayed 0.76 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and proved his mettle for silver medal of the discipline by clocking a time of 1 minute and 02.18 seconds.

Barnes was chased by Jason Block, who stayed 0.14 seconds apart and completed the podium by winning bronze medal of the discipline with an effort of 1 minute and 02.32 seconds.

Fourth spot of the discipline was secured by Andrew Poznikoff, who stayed 0.39 seconds away from the third position holder and clocked a time of 1 minute and 02.71 seconds.

In addition, the championship ended after the completion of all planned swimming events while the position holders received awards and accolades for their notable sprints at the prize distribution ceremony of the tournament.
