Roadside bomb kills three persons in Upper Dir
Saturday, July 21st, 2012 2:30:28 by Faisal FarooqAt least three persons lost their lives after a roadside planted bomb ripped through a vehicle on Saturday in Upper Dir.
Media reports quoting Regional police chief Ehsanullah Khan said the improvised explosive device was detonated using a remote controlled device. He confirmed three deaths saying that seven other sustained serious injuries, out of which two were in critical condition.
He observed, “The dead included the driver of the vehicle and two young men. It was a militant act aimed at creating fear among the people in the area. It was a militant act aimed at creating fear among the people in the area”.
It is vital to mention here that Dhog Darra, the town where incident was occurred, is considered the stronghold of an anti-Taliban militia set up by local people in Upper Dir district.
No militant outfit up till now claimed the responsibility for the attack. However, the media report quoting an intelligence official said that the assaults belonged to Maulana Fazlullah group.
He was a radical cleric belonging to Swat Valley, and fled to Afghanistan after Pakistan army carried out a military operation in the valley.
Pakistan Army sent 30, 000 troops into Sway Valley in April 2009 against militant fighters united under the banner of Maulana Fazlullah. The Taliban outfit terrorized the local residents with a campaign of beheadings, violence and attacks on girls’ educational institutions.
After a tough battle, Pakistani military declared the scenic Swat Valley under control, saying that the militants had been killed, arrested or had crossed into Afghanistan. However, the rebels had regrouped in Nuristan and Kunhar, starting attack on security forces inside in Pakistan.
According to the media reports, attack blamed on Islamists have targeted more than 5100 people in Pakistan since government troops raided an extremist mosque in the capital, Islamabad five years ago, the tragic incident of Lal Masjid.
