Jake Tapp and Genevieve Cantin won gold medals of Men’s 100m butterfly and Women’s 200m backstroke respectively at the 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sport Centre.
Tapp devastated hopes of his rivals as he improved his fourth best qualifying position in the playoff. He continued his unrelenting efforts in the final round and finished first in the discipline by clocking a time of 54.47 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Coleman Allen, who remained only 0.02 seconds slower from his preceding finisher and secured silver medal of the event with an effort of 54.49 seconds.
Allen was trailed by Kourosh Ahani, who remained 0.15 seconds slower from the silver medallist and ended his swim in third best place by producing a time of 54.64 seconds.
The bronze medallist was trailed by Edward Liu, who was only 0.07 seconds slower from outsmarting his former finisher and settled on the finishing blockade as fourth best swimmer with the timing of 54.71 seconds.
On the other hand, the audience witnessed gruelling efforts of Cantin in the Women’s 200m discipline. With her alluring efforts, she remained 0.66 seconds ahead of her following swimmer as she hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 11.34 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Dominique Bouchard, who finished her swim in second best place by posting a time of 2 minutes and 12.00 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was obtained by Lauren Lavigna, who stayed one and a half body length slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 13.24 seconds.
Similarly, Lavigna was followed by Sydney Pickrem, who suffered a loss of 1.50 seconds from her former finisher and transpired on the finishing end as fourth best finisher with an effort of 2 minutes and 14.74 seconds.
Furthermore, the session ended after the notable performances of all national swimmers while the position holders received awards and accolades for their notable efforts at the prize ceremony of the tournament.
