Samsung Series 9 NP900X3C-A01 (2012): Full Review – Part 2
Tuesday, July 24th, 2012 3:35:12 by Usman KhalidIt was a proto-ultrabook, a thin-and-light 13-inch laptop that looked like a Windows variation of the Air, clad in black duralumin. The original Series 9 was far from affordable for a laptop — it actually exceeded the cost of an Air at the time by several hundred dollars — but few who saw it didn’t lust after it.
Design
Majority of the features in the new Series 9 are incorporated from the Spring release. It can be safely said that there are no difference in the two devices from the outside, if none of them is used or held for that matter.
This however, is not to say that the new model is anything laggard like the previous iterations. The new device is slimmer, currently the slimmest in the market, even more so than the Acer Aspire S5. That is the extent of its looks.
The design aesthetics probe further into the device’s complete dimensions and weight. At 2.3×8.6-inch footprint it is smaller than that of the average 13-inch laptop, too, so it’s easier to slip into a smaller bag. That also means a little less palm rest surface area, which I could feel when typing up this review.
This small chassis actually holds a 13-inch screen and a full QWERTY keyboard that is also backlit. But the most amazing part of it is the weight that increases the portability of the device exponentially. All featured in, the Series 9 weighs a mere 2.6 pounds which makes it the lightest laptop of any kind, albeit the hybrid tablets like the Transformer series.
