Mariam prevails as the first Pakistani to earn a PhD in EA

Karachi: (Tuesday, July 24, 2012) Mariam Sultana, a lecturer at the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) has become the first Pakistani woman to earn a doctorate degree in Extragalactic Astrophysics,
which is an emerging branch of Astrophysics.
Sharing details of Mariam’s success, a statement issued by FUUAST stated that Professor Dr Shahid Qureshi at Institute of Space and Planetary Astrophysics (ISPA), University of Karachi supervised her during the course.
Moreover, HEC foreign faculty Professor Dr. S Nuritdinov also guided her during her research work.
Mariam’s research work is based on ‘Mathematical modeling of formation of ring structure in galaxies at early evolution of Universe.’
The statement issued by the university further added that her research work is not only recognized by the national institutes, but has also been acknowledged by the Oxford University and University of California.

Congratulations to Mariam and Pakistan. Pakistani girls can lead the country better than man. Inshallah every Pakistani will work hard to get this country running in right direction.
A commendable achievement. I hope the young lady will continue her pursuit for knowledge and ultimately make valuable contribution towards the research work on this subject, in Pakistan. My very best and sincere prayers for her for achieving even greater goals in life.
This is really a very false claim. There is a women from Pakistan named Tayyaba Zafar who had done her PhD in extragalactic astrophysics from Copenhagen in 2011. One must correct facts. I believe that Tayyaba Zafar is the first woman in astrophysics from Pakistan.
