A malware infiltrated into Apple’s App Store for iOS this week. The host of the malicious program is Instaquotes app on the App Store and has its origins extending into Windows platform.
The malware was detected earlier this week and several antivirus applications on iOS devices have discovered it. However, it is said that the program will not be harmful to iOS and Mac OS X but those who manage their iTunes and App Store on Windows-based systems might inflict harm to their respective accounts.
A user named ‘deesto’ recently posted a comment that he received a warning from his antivirus application ClamXav on the iOS device that “Worm.VB-900” malware has been detected. However, at first it was considered to be a false alarm.
But further probe into the problem presented substantial data that the malware has its presence in the application package. The malicious software makes its way into iOS devices from “Instaquotes Quotes Cards for Instagram” app at the iTunes.
Scanning the Instaquotes package from the iTunes store with Symantec’s free iAntivirus program, finds that it contains the following two Windows executables that are flagged as being malware.
instaquotes.ipa/Payload/Instaquotes.app/FBDialog.bundle/FBDialog.bundle.exe
instaquotes.ipa/Payload/Instaquotes.app/FBDialog.bundle/images/images.exe
Remember that only the latest downloads of the app result in such infiltration.
