Former Irish professional road race cyclist, Sean Kelly shared his thoughts towards Bradley Wiggins performance at the Tour de France 2012.
Kelly believes that Bradley is a definite favourite to secure the top overall position at the race after the final general classifications.
However, the multiple green jersey winner at the French race also stated that Bradley can also be very fragile at times.
“I think Wiggins can win this Tour, if everything happens without a hitch or setback,” Sean Kelly told L’Equipeon.
“Monday evening. But the Irishman, who is working for British Eurosport at the race, also had his doubts concerning Wiggins’ psychological strengths”.
“A puncture or another upsetting incident can make him lose his head. Last year, Evans experienced some mechanical problems behind Contador”
“In the stage to L’Alpe-d’Huez, and if it had been Wiggins, he would have panicked”.
“But to win the Tour, you have to know how to stay calm, overcome adversity, whatever it may be – and that, I’m not sure he’s able to do,” he concluded.
Sean made his assessment just two days after Bradley lost his temper during a press conference when a reporter tested his temper with a stingy question.
The journalist compared the strategies of Team Sky with Lance Armstrong’s former side Team US Postal which is now facing the doping allegations.
The 32-year-old year old is marking his sixth Tour appearance and is ideally placed to secure the top overall position after the final general classifications.
His previous best performance was during the 2009 edition of the race where he finished fourth after the overall classifications.
Alberto Contador finished first with Andy Schleck and Lance Armstrong securing the second and the third positions in the respective order.
Wiggins also succeeded during the stage 9 of the race and bagged his first Tour de France victory.
The British is currently leading the stage 9 classifications with a healthy lead of 1 minute and 53 seconds over the reigning Tour de France winner, Cadel Evans.
Christopher Froome, Vincenzo Nibali and Denis Menchov are holding the third, the fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
