Dereck Chisora pays £20,000 to David Haye’s charity!
Wednesday, July 25th, 2012 4:23:35 by Imran Shaukat KhanFormer British heavyweight champion Dereck Chisora paid £20,000 to the founders of David Haye’s charity of choice, the ACLT (African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust) in Central London following his side-bet with Haye prior to their grudge match, which took place on July 14 at the West Ham Upton Park Stadium in east London.
Chisora and Haye, who literally came down to blows in February in Munich at a press conference, which followed Chisora’s twelve round unanimous defeat against Vitali Klitschko, agreed with each other before their bout that the loser will make a donation to the charity of the winner’s choice.
The donation given by Chisora will now be used for ACLT’s lifesaving work through spreading awareness and increasing the number of ethnic minorities on the UK bone marrow, blood and organ donation registries.
Orin Lewis OBE said, “We are delighted to accept this cheque of £20,000 from Dereck Chisora on behalf of the pre match bet between him and opponent David Haye. We’re sincerely grateful to them both. The generous donation will go towards securing further bone marrow, blood and organ donation recruitment drives throughout the UK in addition to delivering awareness campaigns throughout the year, to help save lives against blood cancer and other life threatening conditions which require blood and organ donation.”
Chisora is currently trying to get his BBBoC boxing license back in order to set up a fight with David Price.
However, he has said that he will have rematch with Haye as well in the near future.
“It will be another great fight one day,” Chisora told iFilm London. “In the future, we’re going to go separate ways and then we’ll meet up again.
“Expect to see me in the ring again soon – everyone wants to see it. Maybe two months out, and then back in.”
Well, all said and done, Dereck Chisora and David Haye’s grudge match was pretty controversial but it was a huge success commercially. So let’s see if both fighters set up a rematch.
