Mads Pliniussen, a spirited shuttler from Denmark, stole the limelight by playing terrific badminton in Boy’s Singles U19 semi-final clash when he outplayed England’s higher ranked shuttler Luke Pearce at the MBBC Jr International 2012 on July 17, in USA.
The in-form Pliniussen, who participated in the tournament as an un-seeded shuttler, proved to be a tough nut to crack the higher ranked Pearce and won the battle in an inspiring manner.
The spirited Danish shuttler showed a staggering performance by playing to his maximum potential and easily overpowered Pearce in straight games with a crushing margin.
The second seeded Pearce, on the other hand, was not expecting such a shocking treatment from his lower ranked opponent. He could not match the pace of the game and eventually lost to his Danish rival with a one-sided margin on score board.
The opening game was absolutely shocking for Pearce as he could not dictate the pace of rallies and also remained struggling to return the bird in right areas.
In the meanwhile, Pliniussen found an amazing start as he executed powerful smashes in opening rallies aiming to establish an early gap and managed it until the mid-game interval.
Pliniussen continued entertaining the local crowd after the break with his spirited play as he did not let his challenger to find a good rhythm and catch up the deficit on score board.
The spirited Danish player was pretty much in control of rallies and he managed to grab the first set by a huge difference of 21-12.
In the following set, Pearce played slightly positive badminton by taking the bird early and remained close to his opponent at the opening rallies.
Nevertheless, Pliniussen started to gear up his speed and created pressure on Pearce until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, Pliniussen continued putting up thrashing show of attacking badminton and remained consistent in his positive and planned game. He eventually ended up the contest by taking the second set with a superb difference of 21-18.
The lower ranked Pliniussen emerged as victorious in this semi-final contest as he finished it off in two sets with an inspiring 21-12 and 21-18 margin on the board.
