MQM, ANP ready to work together for overcoming Karachi violence

Awami National Party (ANP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), the two bitter rival but coalition parties agreed to together for bringing peace and stability in Karachi, the economic hub of the country.

Representatives of the two parties held a meeting in Islamabad on Wednesday to show unity and dedication to fight against violence of the city.

In what appeared to be a positive step, the ANP accepted an invitation to visit MQM Headquarters, Nine Zero, in heart of provincial metropolis city. It is vital to mention here that the rivalries of the two parties have been at the centre of sustain violence.

The sitting came as a part of MQM chief Altaf Hussain’s call for forging harmony among political parties to save the country from unknown intimidation.

They shared a deep concern over the worsening security situation in the mega city of the country and over businessmen and investors shifting their industries to other countries.

The two parties held a joint press conference following the meeting in which Senator Haji Adeel of ANP and Farooq Sattar of MQM addressed the media.

Sattar was of the opinion that all religious and political parties of the country should work together for peace and stability of the country.

He observed, “All religious and political parties, even the armed forces, should come together at a round-table conference to formulate a strategy for the country’s security and survival. No single party is in a position to handle the situation alone”.

Haji Adeel while accepting MQM’s invitation to visit Nine Zero said that the duo parties could better work together to restore peace in Karachi to make it a place like it was in the past.

He remarked, “Our party remains committed to the resolution of issues through talks and strongly believes in dialogue. We welcome and appreciate the MQM’s proposal for a roundtable on key national matters, most importantly Karachi”.

The two sides decided during the meeting to tone down rhetoric against each other and make the city a better place to live for all ethnicities.
