Friday, July 27th, 2012 3:54:45 by Usman KhalidThe new tablet culture though started with a 9.6-inch display, but the intrusion of different players with their own ideas of tablets created more than one markets for the customers to struggle their faculties for the best solution.
Mainly the slates are segregated into two divisions; the 10-inch and the 7-inch tablets. The first is catered to the more rigorous and intensive work, while the second one is usually designed for more casual and multimedia-based work.
The 7-inch tablet culture was instigated by two major players, Research in Motion and Samsung. The former has temporarily opted out while the second is still in the business. The first to arrive, ironically, was the BlackBerry Playbook in the latter half of 2010. It has a 7-inch tablet with no buttons on the bezels, whatsoever. The device was better than iPad in terms of ports and connectivity, while the market was not developed fully it was a hit-and-run for everybody. However, it could not compete on the apps front, Appleās forte.
Then came a slew of different tablets and the most prominent ones were the 2011 releases of Kindle Fire and the Nook Tablet.
Nook started the culture of inexpensive tablets with major functions of watching movies and reading books. It was first released as the Nook Color, however, Amazon changed the way we knew smaller tablets.
The 7-inch tablets received a makeover last year when Amazon released the colour version of the Kindle called the Kindle Fire for $199. The dirt low price for a tablet was a steal and the Fire sell like hot cakes in the market.
Then Google intruded and it seems Amazon will have a run for its money to catch up with Google. The 2012 release of Google Nexus 7 for $199 is a game changer.
