The 7-inch tablet culture: Which one is the best? -Part 2
Friday, July 27th, 2012 3:54:39 by Usman KhalidThe following part will take a look at these mentioned tablets, and lay out in detail what makes them what they are.
Google Nexus 7
Being the most prominent of all the 7 inchers, the Nexus 7 deserves to the honours to be discussed first.
The specifications of the new Nexus 7 are obnoxiously high for the asking price of $199. The Tegra 3 quad-core processor and 1 GB of DDR2 RAM with 8 GB of storage capacity are just some of aspects of the new device to discuss.
Then there is the latest edition of Android called Jelly Bean or Android 4.1, Bluetooth, WiFi, near-field communications (NFC) chip and a high-res 1280 x 800 screen, supported by a 16-core graphics card. All these aforementioned specs show that it is impossible for any company to ask a couple of hundred bucks without incurring some loss or there must be no profits in it. Anyways, Google is going out on a limb here to beat Amazon in the 7-inch tablet market.
The shape is beautiful. It is not thinnest but in the underlying category it is definitely one of the slimmest.
The NFC is another great feature that makes it Google Nexus an attractive commodity to purchase. The Bluetooth, missing in the Amazon Kindle Fire, is another welcome addition.
All the aforementioned specs are not new to any tablet user, but the thing that makes it attractive to all of us is its price. At $199, Google Nexus 7 is a steal.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0
Though Samsung was one of the first to immediately adopt the new fashion of tablet culture in 2010, it never could receive the same response as the iPad. The Korean even released two version, 10.1- and 7-inch tablets last year but could not reach the promised sales figures.
