Freddie Roach confirms Amir Khan doesn’t want to leave him!
Saturday, July 28th, 2012 3:40:45 by Imran Shaukat KhanHall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach has rejected all rumours regarding his split with former WBA and IBF light welterweight champion Amir Khan.
The Bolton man, who is more commonly known as King Khan, suffered a fourth round TKO defeat at the hands of Danny Garcia earlier this month at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
This was Khan’s second straight loss, as he also lost to Lamont Peterson last year although that fight ended up in a storm of controversy, especially after the American came positive on using the illegal substance.
Khan entered both fights as a heavy favorite and perhaps this is a reason why there were a lot of noises in the air which suggested as if Khan is planning to leave Roach after his shocking defeats.
Along with Khan, Roach also trains the eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao and apparently Khan wanted to be with someone who could give him full time.
Nevertheless, Roach has insisted that Khan and his father, Shah Khan, are not in the favour of letting him go.
The renowned trainer recently had a breakfast with Khan and his family, where the trio discussed the whole scenario.
“I spoke with Amir and his dad yesterday, and the idea of changing trainers never came up. I told them that if they think that I’m too busy, and ‘if you need help getting somebody else, then I’ll help you,” said Roach.
He added, “They said, ‘no, no, everything’s fine.’ They said ‘we just need to just maybe we want to get better sparring partners.”
“So I had a very nice breakfast with Shah Khan and Amir. So we had a nice meeting yesterday, and no one talked about getting fired.”
Khan, who now has a record of winning 26 of his 29 professional fights, with 18 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, will return to the ring on December 15 – with no opponent or venue confirmed as of yet.
