Rehman Malik alleges ‘The Sun’ of conspiring against Pakistan
Sunday, July 29th, 2012 2:08:00 by Fayyaz YaseenIslamabad: (Saturday, July 28, 2012) Federal Minister for Interior Rehman Malik has said that the British Newspaper ‘The Sun’ has conspired against Pakistan by creating a false story of the passport and visa scam.
Malik, who was addressing a press conference, said that investigation into the matter are almost complete, according to which there were no loopholes in Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and passport
system.
Sharing details, Malik said that the central figure of the case, Asad Ali, got Pakistani passport back in 2000 and went to UK where he got a local passport and dual nationality.
Malik said that Asad visited Pakistan on a British passport, visa and his movements were recorded during the visit to NADRA and Passport office.
Alleging that Asad colluded with the British Newspaper to malign Pakistan, the minister for interior said, “We are writing to the British Government for his deportation to face criminal proceedings. Facts gathered during investigation
have also been sent to British newspaper through Pakistan High Commission in London.”
He further added, “Pakistan would first lodge a complaint with National Press Trust of UK, which can also refer the case for liberal proceedings. Travel agent Abid Chaudhry is being interrogated by FIA but has not been arrested
due to death of his brother.”
Talking about relations with India and the probe on Mumbai attacks, Malik said that India is being approached once again to allow a judicial commission from Pakistan to visit that country to cross-examine four witnesses in connection
with Mumbai attacks. He said, Cross-examination of these witnesses was necessary for completion of court proceedings in Pakistan.
He said, “India did not allow cross-examination during previous visit of Pakistan’s judicial commission members to India. I would also write a letter to my Indian counterpart in this regard.”
